    Overview

    The Times-Standard is situated in Northerm California along the coast.   The Times-Standard is the regional daily newspaper.#NorCal

    Responsibilities

    This is a part-time l position working in our distribution inserting department.  

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    1. Responsible for accuracy in zones/combos from pre-package or daily production.
    2. Responsible for all inserting and binding of production on the 227 Muller inserting machine, SLS 1000 Quipp inserting machine, and 1509 Muller bindery machine. This includes setting up hoppers and troubleshooting production problems.
    3. Responsible for setting up stackers and strapping equipment.
    4. Responsible for all maintenance and repairs on post-press production equipment.
    5. Responsible for accuracy in production reports, and checking inserts for correct editions and dates.
    6. Knowledge of the hopper operator position (i.e. jog inserts, feed and monitor hoppers, and stack down inserts on pallets)
    7. Use of Forklift (Company Certification Needed) or pallet jack to move and strap pallets as needed, identify pallets with combo/zip numbers on skid tags either pre-made or self-made.
    8. Responsible for making all deadlines.
    9. Needs to flexible and be able to work well with others.
    10. Direct crew on inserting machines and provide training as needed.
    11. Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
    12. Regular attendances, along with being on time for shift are a necessary element for this job.
    13. Over time is required on some shifts.
    14. Other duties as required.

    Qualifications

    Ability to stand for extended periods on a hard surface while stacking and placing inserts into the inserting machine.  Abilty to lift bundles weighing up to 25 lbs.  This position requires the ability to bend, stoop, lift, carry and grasp inserts or bundles of newspapers.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

     

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions. Ability to read and write short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, and other employees of the organization.

     

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

     

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
