    Responsibilities

    We're looking for a pressman to join our team.  This position is a permanent position that functions in a multi-role capacity of paperhandling, reelroom and press operation and basic color setting skills. You will function in several roles in the pressroom on an as needed basis. You will be certified to operate clamplifts and forklifts and should be able to effectively operate reelroom equipment and prepare rolls for running through the press. You are capable of effectively setting process & spot color on assigned units and can fulfill all job relevant skills of Press Operator.

     

    • Effectively prepare and deliver newsprint rolls to presses utilizing provided equipment such as Roll clamps, forklifts, gulwing and kickers
    • Keep the press supplied with paper by doing roll changeovers, performing accurate pasters and ensuring that correct type and size of paper is being used and that the paper does not run off core
    • Accurately complete all paperwork necessary to the position including reel reports, maintenance documentation
    • Makes ready multi-web, multi-unit web offset press to print newspapers and other related advertising products
    • Spots and locks printing plates to plate cylinders
    • Visually inspects printed products for registration, ink density, margin and page alignment. Makes necessary adjustments to ensure printed products meets quality standards set forth by management team
    • Maintain effective housekeeping practices in all areas of responsibility including press and auxiliary equipment
    • Work rotating shifts that include all 3 shifts along with weekends and holidays

    Qualifications

    • EDUCATION: High School degree or equivalent amount of education and experience. 
    • EXPERIENCE: 1-2 years related experience is preferred. 
    • SKILLS: Incumbent must be able to view color correctly or have corrective lens to allow correct color viewing.
    • Must be able to lift 50 pounds, stand for extended periods of time, deal with noise, fumes and chemicals related to the production of newspaper and related advertising products.
    • Candidate must be able to demonstrate they can operate forklifts and roll clamps safely and get operator certification within 45 days of employment.
