    Responsibilities

    The Denver Post seeks an experienced web developer to oversee the evolution of our websites and lead high-priority digital initiatives. The ideal candidate will also have a firm grasp of journalism and be able to recommend new website features that will enhance our storytelling and the overall user experience. The developer will produce backend apps that will streamline workflow within the newsroom and will program against third-party APIs. The developer will troubleshoot any technical product issues and maintain existing products.

     

    Technical Requirements

    • Develop and support CMS-driven websites and mobile apps
    • Provide backend programming and frontend scripting support
    • Architect and build features based on visual mockups or wireframes
    • Advanced knowledge of HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP
    • Experience with jQuery, Javascript libraries
    • Knowledge of JavaScript frameworks a plus
    • Experience developing in Wordpress
    • Build efficient and reusable components
    • Identify and resolve UX and page load issues
    • Participate in code reviews, design reviews, user testing, and QA
    • Draft standards and documents for style guides, tools and processes
    • Work with the agile software development and be aware of best practices
    • Maintain high standards for code quality, design patterns, documentation, standards and security across the digital team
    • Have proven expertise in web development and information architecture

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of five to seven years of experience in web development or a related field
    • Detail oriented, well-organized, able to thrive in a deadline-driven environment while working on a number of projects simultaneously and independently
    • Extensive experience with consumer-facing websites and user experience
    • Grow expertise by proactively remaining current with trends within digital media technologies
