    Responsibilities

    The Daily Camera and Longmont Times-Call newspapers in Boulder County, CO, are looking for an experienced journalist to serve as Deputy City Editor, working afternoons and nights in our Boulder newsroom editing daily and longer-term stories for the newspapers' websites and print editions. 

     

    The ideal candidate is a seasoned journalist with 3 to 5 years of experience as an editor, who is a skilled wordsmith and master of AP style, who has a sharp eye for detail, and who can work closely with our reporting staff to improve both their storytelling and reporting. Most importantly, we're looking for someone who can remain calm and collected — and make smart decisions — in high-stress, deadline situations.

    The Deputy City Editor is responsible for coordinating our after-hours news coverage of Boulder County, as well as maintaining and updating the websites of the Camera, Times-Call and their sister newspapers. Candidates should have experience working with web content-management systems and be well-versed in social media and search-engine optimization.

     

    Qualifications

    • Degree in journalism, communication or equivalent experience
    • The preferred candidate has 3 to 5 years of experience as an editor at a daily newspaper or online news outlet
    • Relevant experience in news editing, reporting and writing, using social media, creating enterprising content
    • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Strong editing, writing, organizational and story structure skills
    • Understands imperatives of emerging and existing platforms, including web, mobile and print
    • Beats production deadlines
    • Contributes to a positive culture of teamwork and collaboration
    • Experiments with new digital tools and platforms

      Additional information:

    • Must be flexible to work weekends and holidays on a rotational basis as well as odd hours if necessary/news requires
    • Must live in area or be willing to relocate (no relocation assistance offered)
    • Must include at least 3 writing samples or link to portfolio with application
