The Press-Enterprise is seeking a proven journalist with a passion for digging. We’re looking for someone who will focus on the local communities of Hemet and San Jacinto and will hold public officials accountable. The right candidate will be able to easily develop sources within the community, build and grow a local audience and can recognize strong engaging stories for various platforms, including social.
This position is based in Hemet, Calif., but works directly with the editors and reporters in The Press-Enterprise's Riverside office.
We're looking for journalists with the ability to produce strong enterprise and breaking news for online, mobile and print platforms. Our ideal candidates can cultivate sources in person and via social media, write compelling narratives as well as tweets, and are comfortable mining public records for deep investigative pieces.
Two to three years reporting experience desired but we will consider recent graduates with demonstrated abilities.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in journalism or related field.
Strong news judgment.
Excellent writing and reporting skills, including knowledge of AP style.
Strong understanding of social media and knowledge of how to use it to manage breaking news.
Ability to create and enhance digital content using tools such as Google maps, ScribbleLive, etc.
Basic knowledge of analytics and how to use them in digital decision making.
